First Spring Salmon of 2023 Caught at Cornhill
27/02/2023
Tuesday 21st February. The river was running at 1ft4 inch it was very overcast with a cold sharp wind i only fished a couple of hours in late afternoon, on the way back up from the Raven pool heading home i fished the Lairds Cast again, I was delighted to land a lovely springer very fresh with the sea lice just off, the first off the River Carron this season.

It was taken on a big Collie dog fished on sinking gear, its always great to get off the mark, but it does not change the fact that at present up to this point its been the slowest start i have ever seen it is early yet for springers and hopefully things will improve and take off.
But part of spring fishing is the amount of kelts that are seen or encountered and have survived spawning, Each season they are getting less and are now almost as rare as early springers, this season they are noticable in their almost complete absence. Other than this springer i have only had one other take! since the start of the season and that resulted in a kelt in the Bridge pool.
