Fishing West Ranga & Stora laxa 2018 with Adam Shaw & party

Some photos remembering the brilliant trip i had out to Iceland in 2018 thanks to the tremendous kindness and generosity of Adam Shaw, Jamie Parratt & Jim Appleton Metcalfe. I was suffering from incredibly sore lower back problems in the two weeks leading up to the trip which unfortunately did not ease while on the trip i have this back problem fairly regularly now but nothing to that extent just really unfortunate it had to happen then.

We fished on the Storra Laxa and the West Ranga, Oli & Dagur ghillied and drove us around stayed with us on the Storra and then they came with us to the West Ranga where another Ghille Jan joined us all lovely friendly people and excellent ghillies in an absolutely stunningly beautiful country.

We certainly did it in style something very special for me, we flew in on a private jet to Reykjavik then headed off to the Stora Laxa the first evening on the Stora i fished a beautiful long run called Gvendardrattur where i caught one grilse lost one as i was beaching it and had another on briefly.

I landed a 16 pounder in Breidabakki and lost a big one in Djupos the Monument pool that Jan the ghillie thought would be 20lbs. I also had a good couple of hours in the evening on Hellisey landing a 7lb & 8lb and losing one and briefly getting hold of an other, as i was wading waist deep down the pool for about an hour their was a constant procession of salmon swimming up on the inside of me between myself and the bank. I landed a grilse in Nedrahorn just above this a big salmon was showing fairly regularly in Kloppin.

Salmon Flies

The fully Dressed Flies are on Bartleet 1/0 hooks and some of them were fished in North America and in Norway the Night hawks were sent to North America. The Silver Grey is from a batch of flies i tied for Neil Graesser it was one of his favorite traditional fully dressed flies.
