Four nice springers fishing the Gledfield beat
19/05/2022
The river level went up over the last three days of last week 12th to 14th May I fished across the water on the Gledfield beat, The water went up and peaked at approx 1ft 10 inch by Saturday it was down to 10 inch and dropping.
I had a good bit of sport landing an 8lb salmon in the Gledfield pool a 9lb salmon in the Little falls pool and two other cracking springers of 14lb salmon in the March pool, & a 17lb salmon in the McGregor pool three were caught on a Kyley and the other on a Collie dog. One other salmon was lost. A bit of a story behind the 17 pounder within minutes after looking as though it was going downstream out the pool it then screamed upstream and went up 20yards into the tail of lairds cast i managed to get it down to head of McGregor when it snagged around a rock, to cut a long story short i waded across the tail of Lairds cast above my waist with wellies on! To find out the salmon was still on i managed to free it from the snagged rock.
I successfully landed it on Cornhill side of the McGregor and safely released it. I have caught well over 1.600 salmon and have not had a salmon behave like that, I must upload to website a video that i have of the memorable but strange episode.
