Jamie’s catch of a lifetime.

30/04/2012

Myself and Jean went down to Jamie’s wedding in Dundee and then on to a brilliant reception in Birkhill castle. it was great to meet up with some good friends a few of them fishers and a couple of Ghillies,  The speeches were all extremely funny and quite enlightening as to what Jamie was like when he was younger especially from his good pal Alastair Ness, big Nessie master of ceremonies and Jamie’s brother Tim, Jamie Parratt with the catch of his life new wife Martel.

A couple more photos from a fantastic wedding and a great reception wedding bash! afterwards

A brace of springers at Gledfield

I fished Monday April 23rd on the Gledfield beat and was delighted to land a 7lb salmon followed by a 5 pounder both carrying long tailed sea lice, both were caught in the Raven pool and both were taken on a Kyley shrimp gold hooked double, I lost a good fish the following day and Peter Wemyss. Landed a fresh 10 pounder in Gledfield pool. I hope the smaller 5 pounder is not  the end of the run of fish still very cold for time of year with practically nothing showing other than if the river is up in height. I was then off down to a good friend Jamie’s wedding in Dundee for the weekend.

Two springers from lower Shin

08/04/2012

I went over and fished the lower River Shin on Friday 6th of April  The Carron was showing just under  3 foot on the Gauge when I left due to yesterdays quick thaw and mild overnight temperatures. The Shin due to the Hydro scheme does not benefit as much from natural spates as the water is controlled by the dam. Even so the river was up about 5 inches, I had a very enjoyable day and a very exciting morning I pulled a fish in Cromarty pool, carried on down and pulled another salmon in the Shoulder of Cromarty, I covered him again and on the next cast he took solidly I could tell he was a good fish as he stripped off line and looked as though he was heading for the Angus pool at one point, eventually I got him up near the pulpit rock  and as I was landing him I fell in ! not an easy place to land a fish and as I had a sinking tip attached to my Intermediate line I could not shorten line enough to swing fish in to where I wanted him eventually I managed, He was I would say 17lbs been in river about a month. After ten minutes I tried the one that I had pulled first and he took ! landed him a lot easier he was sea liced and weighed in at 8lbs. Both were taken on a 1.25 inch Kyley, that was all the excitement for the day fished on until five o’clock.
