We
are now in to June and have had our first run of grilse, so
we are hoping for good things for our summer and back end
fishing.
Looking back over this spring fishings I am delighted to report
that we have had an excellent spring. Being higher upriver
we are always later in starting, this year our spring fishing
basically lasted six weeks, catching our first springer on
April 16th and by the end of May we had landed exactly 90
springers. The Kyle fishery board have decided that the spring
fishing should now end on June 14th so the extra two weeks
produced another 14 fish giving us a total of 104 . A break
down of the catches are as follows.
April total = 31 with 26 of them released
May total = 59 with 48 of them released
June - June 14th = 14 with 12 of them released
Total = 104 with 86 of them released
This gives us a release rate over the spring of 83% here at
Amat.
The quality of the spring fish this season has been superb,
the best for quite a number of years. Our heaviest salmon
were 16lbs, 15lbs, 14lbs, seven at 13lbs, and 27 weighing
between 10lb and 12lbs and 46 weighing between 8lbs and 9.75lbs,
