There
were not as many Salmon tagged last season and all tagged
Salmon were returned to the pools they were caught in. Of
the 13 that I tagged at Cornhill, interestingly two of them
were recaught, one of them within one week of being caught
and tagged, the other lasted out five months before it was
tempted by a fly again. Most of the tagged Salmon were seen
at Amat around mid May till third week in June, one was seen
at spawning time in November in the tail of the Bo Bahn pool.
On March 29th I caught and tagged a Salmon of 8lbs in the
Gledfield pool on Cornhill beat (tag Orange 00115). This Salmon
was recaught and again released by K Willims snr on April
4th in the McKenzie stream on the Dounie beat The McKenzie
stream is approx three quarters of a mile upstream of the
Gledfield pool.

Another
Salmon that I caught and tagged was on April 2nd - this one
was a 10pounder from Gledfield pool on Cornhill beat (tag
orange 00120). I was very pleased to be present when this
one was recaptured when I was ghillieing for Jonathon Trelawny
on the Long pool, Amat on September 10th. As Jonathon was
bringing in the Salmon I could see it was tagged, it was released
again and after checking the number found I had indeed caught
and tagged it back in April so I was delighted to see her
again so close to spawning.

| The
first tagged springer was seen in Markhams pool on May 20th
this was a particularly good one and looked in the 14lb class.
Some tagged Salmon were seen up until the third week in June,
after this they were hardly seen although one was seen in Glencalvie
pool in late August. The interesting point about the photo of
the three springers was I saw these three move into Markhams,
so I moved up to Louisa's and watched them move through the
pool. They moved into tail of Henderson's and I lost sight of
them so I ran up to the head of the Grilse runs and sure enough
six minutes later they came in and I managed to get a photo
of them. They were all good Salmon of about 10lbs, how far they
had travelled as a trio is anybodys guess! |
